What Yoga Means to Me

Yoga is a discipline which is designed to improve a person's balance and breathing techniques. It is a Hindu discipline which also involves meditation and good posture. It is very beneficial for people who suffer from Asthma as it teaches them to breathe deeply and in a controlled manner rather than in a ragged and uncontrolled way which all asthmatics do when having an attack. The breathing techniques used in yoga have been shown to increase the lung capacity which is very good for asthmatics and in fact every person who frequently participates in the art.

The meditation side of yoga is a wonderful way to relieve stress and increase stamina. During the meditation phase the person finds that he or she is totally focused on the here and now and other problems of the day are put aside for a while. The stretching phase is designed to warm up the muscles slowly and thus prevent injuries such as occur in most gyms.

Because yoga exercises use only the body weight it is sometimes suggested that it might not be too beneficial but in fact it plays a great part at increasing strength in everyone who participates. Using one's whole body weight and continuing to hold the given pose not only increases strength but also build up each individual muscle in a perfect manner with no damage to joints and ligaments. If the exercises are performed under the supervision of a master then no injury will occur.

People who regularly participate in yoga always find that their outlook on life slowly changes as does their diet and approach to a healthy lifestyle. Their attitude changes to the daily problems which frequent their lives and their general approach improves. There are no bad side effects to the art of yoga. It is the oldest known physical discipline and is also one of the most beneficial for a totally healthy outlook on life.

I hope this short article was helpful and you will seriously consider joining wonderful Yoga world, which is helping millions of people to find a harmony with them. Balance Means True Health

True health is not about how fit you are, or how much you weigh. True health is all about balance. In order for you to be truly healthy, you need a balance between mind, body and spirit. You will achieve true health when all three are working together in harmony.

Everyday you need to take a little time for meditation. You need to take the time to relax and let go of the chatter in your head. The food you eat is important as well as the amount you eat. There is a spiritual side to food and if you eat food spiritually, you will never become overweight. All processed food loses value as it is processed. The more processes it goes through, the less valuable as a source of nourishment, it becomes. Eat natural food, raw if possible, and you will find it more nourishing, spiritually as well as physically.

Your body needs exercise. It was designed for regular physical activity and if you go against the design, your body will not work efficiently. It's surprising how much abuse the human body can take, before it breaks down, but without regular exercise, it will break down.

Yoga and Tai Chi are excellent forms of exercise. They exercise the mind and the spirit. Exercise doesn't have to be rough and sweaty. You will get a lot of benefit from the stretching and strength building exercises of Yoga and Tai Chi, and they are great for relaxing, too.

Your mind needs work too. You need to exercise your brain as much as you need to exercise your body. Brain games, crosswords, Sudoku, or even just reading a book, are all good ways to exercise your mind. Health and harmony are not hard to achieve. Take a little time each day and before you know it, you will have true health.

There is a lot of things most people take for granted e.g., the government controls the amount of dangerous chemicals in toiletries and make-up. This is not possible, given the amount of new chemicals and combinations of chemicals developed every year. We need to take a proactive approach and look out for ourselves.
