The Benefits of Yoga to Your Health

Yoga encompasses strength, balance and flexibility. To throw a little Buddhism in here "One learns selfishness therefore strength of character and personality".

Physical strength is gained as well from the postures, or poses as some refer to them. Moving to balance- we know that balancing the different aspects of ones lives (work, family and other commitments) eases the stress of our overfilled days. Really Yoga will make your life seem less hectic. I know what your saying "yeah right". But I say just try it. It really will, once I finished my first Yoga session it felt like there was a cloud of sunshine around me.

The most important benefit, I feel, is flexibility. Flexibility of mind allows us to be more tolerant and compassionate of others and ourselves. The flexible body, physically, can endure all types of exercise and sports.

With flexibility our body parts move more fluidly and gives length to our major body parts (hips, back, shoulders, spine, etc). Our spirit is taken care of with the spiritual part of yoga. Breathing, deep breathing, relaxation techniques as well as meditation.

There is so much to Yoga, it really isn't just stretching ones muscles. Its going through the poses and really feeling them, understanding your body and connecting your mind through deep breaths. If you are reading this for the first time, without ever trying a real yoga session you may be skeptical. Please try one, but when you go into that first session please don't be skeptical. Just let your body do its thing. Don't worry if you are not as flexible as the other students. That will come

Along with your flexibility, your open mindedness will also follow. You will be a better athlete because of this. There is a ton of great yoga info out there to help you along your way. Best of luck to you!
